Topic “Bethlehem Lutheran Church News”

This Sunday

These summer months invite us into a place of abundance. It is a growing time of light, seed, play and wonder. As the Holy Spirit moves within and among us we are invited to breathe in its power and then live out the good news so that others might see what God is up to in the world.
This Sunday: Freedom/Responsibility--Does God's grace give us permission to do anything we want?

Rob Bell: Drops Like Stars August 21, 8 pm at State Theatre

Hardcore sermon junkies may be familiar with Rob Bell through his "Everything is Spiritual" tour in the summer of 2006 where he traveled the country sharing the word in a unique fashion, and donating proceeds to water aid. This pastor is quite gifted to be able to take books of the Bible that are considered by many to be quite dry, and explain them in a manner that today's culture can understand and connect with. If you enjoy the NOOMA video series, don't miss this chance to see Rob Bell live at the State Theatre.

Celebrate Pentecost

Some 2000 years ago the gift of the Holy Spirit enabled a group of gathered people to speak in languages they had not previously learned. The chaotic sound amazed and perplexed them and gave the apostle Peter an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ. In honor of that event we are inviting all who will be worshipping at Bethlehem this Sunday to pray the Lord's Prayer during the service in the language of their choosing. So whether it's German, Spanish, Norwegian, Hebrew or the older translation, all languages are welcome! Come and enjoy the sounds of the chaos and be surprised by where the Spirit may lead us!

Comedy Night Saturday, June 6

Bethlehem's focus for the coming month is breathing, and there's no better way to breathe than by laughing. There will be plenty of laughter, not to mention plenty of food, on June 6, 6:30-8:00 pm as Iverson Hall becomes a comedy club, featuring ComedyCity, Bethlehem intern Andy Behrendt's improv troupe from Green Bay (seeing the intern return to improv might provide laughs in itself). Register now for this family-friendly event for all ages, with a suggested donation at the door of $10 per person ($5 for children ages 12 and under) for admission and hors d'oeuvres by Chef Ben. All proceeds will help fund Bethlehem Young Adults' service trip in 2010.
