Sanctuary Windows

The Life of Christ

By Weston & Leighton, Minneapolis; dedicated 10/27/1929

A few things to look for in the sanctuary windows...

  • The plants and flowers at the feet of the main figures in the large windows, recalling the Garden of Eden.
  • Halos - circles of light surrounding the heads of sacred or divine persons.
  • In the small aisle windows, note:
    • the faces of Jesus from the second window to the last.
    • how the curve of Mary’s bowed head in the first window is echoed by the woman pouring water in the third window and Jesus carrying his cross in the next-to-last.
    • as Jesus’ passion progresses, there is more and more red in the background.
    • the skull at the feet of Jesus on the cross. The hill where Jesus was crucified was called the ‘place of the skull.’
